Budgeting for a Trade Show
A trade show is one of the most expensive marketing efforts conducted by many companies and corporations. Aimed at boosting company sales, trade shows are typically held on a yearly basis, allowing different companies to display their products and services to the public. Since joining a trade show involves a big cash disbursement, it is important that a company identifies the different cost drivers of a trade show so that the company can cut costs on areas that can be saved on.
Any company should take note that the primary objective of joining a trade show is boosting the sales of the company's products or services. Before deciding to join a trade show, the finance department of the company should calculate all the possible costs incurred by the company and the projected sales that can be gained from the trade show. If the sales can cover up the costs incurred and can bring the company to a good profit level, then by all means, consider joining the exposition.
After conducting the cost-benefit analysis, the company should allocate its budget on all the components in doing a trade show. Any of the following areas should not be overlooked so that the company will not encounter any major financial issue caused by an oversight of budget allocation. The first component in any trade show is the exhibit space. This space is priced per square foot so it is wise that you calculate first how much space you really need to be able to create a good display. Also, it is important that the company determines how much should go to exhibit expenses (aesthetic accessories and supplies), labour, utilities, freight, travel and accommodation, and pre-show marketing expenses. Taking note of the aforementioned things, it will be easier for a company to make a reasonable budget for a trade show.
